How to Create Your Free Will

Creating your Will with House of Heirs is simple. Please follow the steps below carefully so that your Will can be prepared correctly and your wishes are clearly recorded.

  1. 1

Click on “Create a Free Will”

Start by clicking the Create a Free Will button on the House of Heirs website.

  2. 2

    Complete Your Personal Details

    • Fill in your full personal information, including your: full names, ID number, contact details, marital status, residential address.
    • Last Wishes.
    • Choose a Co-Executor (optional) — You may appoint a second Executor if you would like a trusted family member or friend to serve alongside your appointed Executor.
    • Choose a Co-Trustee (optional) — You may appoint a second Trustee if you would like another trusted person to act alongside your appointed Trustee.
    • Age for Trust — Select the age at which the trust will end and your beneficiaries will inherit their share directly.

Please make sure all information is accurate and matches your official documents.

  3. 3

    Add Your Family Information

You will be asked to provide details of your spouse, children, dependants or any other important family members. This helps us understand your family structure and ensures that your Will is prepared properly.

  4. 4

    Assets

The Assets tab allows you to record the major assets that form part of your estate. This helps ensure that your Executor understands what you own and assists with the administration of your estate.

You should include assets such as:

    • Residential or investment properties
    • Motor vehicles
    • Bank accounts
    • Share portfolios (e.g. JSE, EasyEquities, Allan Gray, Old Mutual, etc.)
    • Investments and unit trusts
    • Retirement funds or pension interests (where applicable)
    • Business interests
    • Valuable personal belongings, such as jewellery, artwork or collectibles

You do not need to know the exact value of every asset. Simply provide as much information as possible so that your estate can be administered efficiently.

If you do not own any assets in a particular category, simply leave that section.

  5. 5

    Choose Your Beneficiaries

Your beneficiaries are the people or organisations who will inherit from your estate. You may include:

    • Your spouse or partner
    • Your children
    • Other family members
    • Friends
    • Charities or organisations

Please clearly state what each beneficiary should receive.

  6. 6

    Review Your Information

Before submitting, carefully check that all details are correct. Incorrect names, ID numbers or unclear instructions may delay the finalisation of your Will.

  7. 7

Submit your Will for Review before Signing

Once you have completed your Will and submitted it for review, our legal team at House of Heirs will carefully check it to ensure that it is complete, legally compliant and accurately reflects your instructions.

  8. 8

    Sign Your Will Correctly

When the review has been completed and your Will has been approved, your Will status on the platform will automatically be updated to Final Approved. You will also be notified that your Final Will is ready.

At this stage, you may download, print and sign your Final Will. Please do not print or sign any draft version of your Will, as only the Final Approved version should be executed.

    See our Signing Instructions below.

  9. 9

Collection of Your Originally Signed Will for Safekeeping

Once your Will has been signed correctly, we will arrange for the collection of your originally signed Will. It will be securely stored and safekept by House of Heirs to ensure it is protected and can be easily located when required.
